Skilled Migration & PR Pathways (Subclasses 189, 190, 491)

These visas are for skilled workers who are invited to live and work in Australia permanently (or with a pathway to PR).

Visa Application Whole Process

  1. Skills Assessment: Have your skills and qualifications assessed by the relevant Australian assessing authority for your nominated occupation.

  2. English Test: Achieve the required English language test score.

  3. Expression of Interest (EOI): Submit an EOI via the SkillSelect system, indicating which visa subclasses you are interested in and claiming points based on your profile (age, education, work experience, English level). A minimum of 65 points is required to submit an EOI.

  4. State/Territory Nomination (for 190 and 491): If applying for the 190 (Nominated) or 491 (Regional Provisional) visa, you must secure a nomination from an Australian State or Territory.

  5. Invitation to Apply (ITA): If your EOI meets the selection criteria, you will receive an invitation to apply for the visa.

  6. Lodge Visa Application: Within 60 days of the invitation, lodge your full visa application via ImmiAccount.

  7. Checks and Grant: Complete health and character checks, and await the visa grant.

Where and How to Apply for Visa?

  • Where: The initial EOI is submitted via SkillSelect, an online system on the Department of Home Affairs website. The final visa application is lodged through ImmiAccount after receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

  • How: Create a SkillSelect EOI, accurately claiming points. Wait for an ITA. Once invited, log in to ImmiAccount to start the formal visa application.
