Employer-Sponsored Visas (Subclasses 482, 186, 494)

These visas allow Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas or within Australia for temporary or permanent employment.

Visa Application Whole Process

  • Temporary: See the Temporary & Work Visas (TSS 482) section above.

  • Permanent (Subclass 186): There are generally three streams:

    1. Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream: For Subclass 482 holders who have worked for their employer for a set period.

    2. Direct Entry (DE) Stream: For applicants nominated by an employer, whose occupation is on the relevant list, and who meet the age and skill requirements.

    3. Agreement Stream: For applicants sponsored under a Labour Agreement.

Where and How to Apply for Visa?

  • Where: All applications (Sponsorship, Nomination, and Visa) are lodged online via ImmiAccount.

  • How: The employer must first submit a nomination. Once approved, the employee can lodge the visa application, proving they meet the visa’s health, character, English, and skills requirements.

Necessary Documents (Key Examples)

  • Nomination Approval: Evidence of the employer’s approved nomination.

  • Skills Assessment: Mandatory for the Direct Entry stream of Subclass 186 (unless exempt).

  • Work Experience: Evidence of at least three years of relevant work experience (for the Direct Entry stream).
