Permanent (Subclass 186): There are generally three streams:
Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream: For Subclass 482 holders who have worked for their employer for a set period.
Direct Entry (DE) Stream: For applicants nominated by an employer, whose occupation is on the relevant list, and who meet the age and skill requirements.
Agreement Stream: For applicants sponsored under a Labour Agreement.
Where: All applications (Sponsorship, Nomination, and Visa) are lodged online via ImmiAccount.
How: The employer must first submit a nomination. Once approved, the employee can lodge the visa application, proving they meet the visa’s health, character, English, and skills requirements.
Nomination Approval: Evidence of the employer’s approved nomination.
Skills Assessment: Mandatory for the Direct Entry stream of Subclass 186 (unless exempt).
Work Experience: Evidence of at least three years of relevant work experience (for the Direct Entry stream).
English Language: Competent English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) or higher, depending on the stream and occupation.
